Château la Genestière embodies the living memory and colorful history of nearby Avignon and France’s Southern Rhône Valley. Beginning in the 16th century the domain functioned as a silkworm farm before its acquisition in 1930 by the Garcin family who converted the 100-acre estate to viticulture and winemaking. Today, Château la Genestière devotes itself to fashioning an incomparable Tavel rosé as well as a bevy of outstanding red and white wines from France’s Southern Rhône Valley. Purchased in 2015 by Christian Latouche, owner of two domains in Les Baux-de-Provence, Château la Genestière specializes on the production of outstanding Tavel Rosé, France’s deeply colored and most renowned rosé wine. Château la Genestière also produces delicious red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Lirac from nearby appellations. A rising star in the Southern Rhône, Château la Genestière’s Tavel Rosé was the finest rosé we tasted on a recent wine trip to France.

Tasting Notes: The seductive age worthy 2023 Château la Genestière Tavel Rosé is a deeply colored rosé with a beguiling aroma of freshly picked raspberries and strawberries. Full-bodied and generous in flavor its beautiful bouquet has us even before the first sip. It provides the perfect year-round foil to charcuterie, salads, poultry, pork, and even steak tartare. Sable Nicoise, Lobster Thermidor, and Grilled Cedar Plank Salmon on a bed of creamy risotto make especially scrumptious accompaniments. Serve moderately chilled (38°–45°F) before allowing it to slowly evolve in the glass.
